With Eyes Closed And Dreams Awake

With eyes closed and dreams awake

Dreams, like almost everything in us, play an extraordinary role in life when they are in balance and harmony with it.  There are as many dreams as there are people on our planet; what happens is that often, out of fear, shame, or discouragement, we use to lock our ability to dream, incarcerating it for fear of hurting ourselves, thus renouncing a wonderful part of our being.

We take the key that unlocks dreams and throw it overboard, and if it comes back, we throw it again. And like that, without realizing it, each time we take it we become older, neither being wiser nor happier.

It is a silent and stubborn process that goes against our nature and undermines our hope. But not a silly hope, but a wise and moving hope: the one that makes us human and wakes us up to live a new day, and not to suffer another journey.

Furthermore, while we lock our dreams and hope in the same lock, we also include imagination and the ability to plan. We banish anything that isn’t routine and begin to respond with relief when the days become mere copies, one after the other.

There are people who are not so radical and who always look forward to setting easy goals, goals that do not imply the sacrifice of the “normality” they seek to maintain. They fear losing the self-esteem they have and try to minimize the chances of not being able to reach a goal on the first attempt, or in a short period of time.

These people are the ones who would only board a boat if they knew beforehand that the wind will blow in their favour, that there will be no storm and that the captain with the most experience in the navy is in command of the boat; they are those who do not take risks for fear of not winning and those who do not walk for fear of stones.

But, as you know, there is another type of person: those who have dreams very related to well-selected goals, truly exciting and who pose a challenge to their abilities.

Inside your chest of dreams, we could say that two types of dreams coexist: those that you aim to achieve in the short or medium term and those that have to do with the future that is built little by little.

These two types of dreams are fundamental, since some bring a continuous and extraordinary learning and strength, while the others draw in general lines the outline of a passionate and enchanting life.

Finally, there are people who never touch the ground. In other words, they live more in the future than in the present. Their dreams are usually very big, but also not very elaborate and motivating, that is, not very action-oriented.

This type of person is what we all know as dreamers. Souls who live on a constant roller coaster of emotions, far removed from the current configuration of their lives. In this sense, they are big children, whose personality is usually innocent and with a passive attitude towards the present.

They can’t stand the routine and their favorite activity is starting new things, aspects they share with the second type. They are genuinely passionate about “beginnings”, but projects that end are rare. In addition, those that are completed usually require an exercise in discipline and very strong self-control, which they are not used to.

So we describe three types of dreamers as if they were three colors, but the truth is that most of us don’t fit into either profile uniquely, even though we can get closer to one than the other.

In fact, it is more likely that, depending on where you are and the facet or scope of life to which the dream refers, you are closer to one end of the “dreaming triangle” than to the other, thus favoring their plurality and growth.

What seems certain is that the happiest people are those of the second type, those who fight to the end ; either way, it seems that the third one fits better with our essence and restlessness, allowing us to make free use of our wings.

So, even though the ability to dream is within us from birth, it is in our hands to make our dreams come true or to leave them in a chest.  Because if everything is an illusion, let us choose the most beautiful illusions and put our wings to the test, as they are the only ones that allow us to feed our freedom, sweep the sky and cultivate our spirit by learning the language of the moon.

Because only when you understand the language of the moon, do you begin to understand the importance of feeding on colorful clouds and breathing in starlight… everything with the illusion needs to be doing what you really want…
