Cowardice Ages Us Faster Than Time

Cowardice ages us more than time

Cowardice ages older than the years inscribed in facial wrinkles. Dreams interrupted by lack of decision weigh more than a century inscribed in a look or a mouth that he loved when he saw the occasion. Because those who did not risk when they could out of fear or pride feel an emptiness in their soul, a thorn in their heart.

We are undoubtedly talking about lost hopes. Something curious that they repeat a lot is that “every day trains pass for those who know how to wait” or “opportunities return for those who go out looking for them again” . But we must also  be aware that there are certain things for which there are no second chances.

Cowardice, lack of values or fear are weighty factors that put ropes on our feet and chains on our minds. However,  before regretting all that you did not experience because of indecision, it is necessary to look at our timeline in another way. There are no beginnings or endings. There is something continuous with new beginnings that we must know how to integrate with the appropriate psychological approaches.

We propose that you discover these approaches with us in this text.

If it was cowardice, it’s already part of the past: it’s necessary to move on

Maybe it was cowardice. Pride may have blinded us too much to that love, and now we are left with only will, sadness, and regret. It’s possible that it was fear. A deep dread of pulling out our roots, of crossing our personal borders to start new projects, new lives that would have given us more happiness. Who knows…

However, before we fall into a situation of obsessive melancholy of “what would my life have been like if…” , it is necessary to restructure this approach in a more integrative way. The “missed train syndrome” is something that we have all suffered or will suffer at some point in our lives. However, we have to take into account that  these mental models and these emotional derivations anchored in the past irremediably condition the quality of our present.

An interesting article published in the “ American Journal of Psychology ” called  “Nostalgia: withdrawal or support in difficult times”,  explains that the facts of the past, the disappointments or even  the trains we let slip by lack of decision act in many people as “ subconscious forms”. They determine us, put walls in our present and irremediably condition our future.

This is not correct, we have to move forward with certainty and wisdom…

Focus your life in circles, not a straight line

Peter Senge is a famous economist, pedagogue and professor at Stanford University,  famous for his systems theories and a more humane and flexible perspective on organizations. Although his work is focused on the business field, his theories are equally enlightening and wonderful if applied in the field of personal development.

Dr. Senge proposes the following:  stop looking at our lives as a straight line. Seeing this way means dragging the past into the present and even projecting it into the future. Of course, we are everything that we lived, everything that happened and even everything that we suffered. However, sometimes it is enough to change a small detail of thought to see and feel things differently.

To put the end point in a cycle and move forward with greater integrity we must “close circles”. And it is in this circle of the past that cowardice, fear, interrupted dreams must remain in order to create a new one. Every step of our life should be a new and stronger circle where we can use what we learn. We will explain in more detail below.

Life is circles that fit into a chain

We continue to maintain the image of something continuous, but now  the straight line is formed by circles, and in each one of them is contained a stage of our existence. It’s like a chain, like a jewel filled with gemstones of various colors.

  • If we visualize it for a moment, we will catch the magic of the idea. To move forward with greater aplomb, it is necessary to courageously close each circle of our lives. The next link in our chain starts with a new circle where we are creators of what we want to add to it.
  • Now,  we have to be aware that there are things that cannot stay the same. In previous circles there will be people who will no longer return. There will also be projects that can no longer be started. However, a new screen will appear in front of you that deserves to be enjoyed with everything you’ve learned, seen and felt.

Cowardice has disappeared forever in these circles of the past. Now you are a new person who has allowed yourself to grow, who feels good about herself and who, believe it or not, keeps moving, keeps turning into something wonderful whenever you want and can. Worth trying!
